This site constantly gets visitors interested in geneaology and old family connections. Putting these pictures up has helped some of these searchers make some connections, and find photos of ancestors and relatives who till then had only been names on a family tree. This is the "cream" of a treasure trove of old Garrett family photos that almost none of us knew existed until summer 2010. They were taken to Illinois by David's great-aunt Katherine Garrett Walker when she closed up the Garrett household in Atwood, Tennessee, and went to live with her niece Sue Hale Brockman. While Katherine ("Aunt Kakie") was still alive Sue had the foresight to go over these pictures with her and get them identified, which makes them a hundred times more valuable. Sue was gracious enough to ship the pictures to me (David) for scanning and cataloguing. A brief history of this branch of the Garretts: We stem from James Nicholas Garrett, born around Spartanburg in 1799, through his son Elijah T. Garrett. Between 1860 and 1865 century the family migrated to the Middle Fork area of Henderson County, Tennessee. Elijah's children were born there, including David's great-grandfather James Mitchum Garrett. Around 1910 the James Mitchum Garrett moved from Henderson County to Atwood, Tennessee, in Carroll County. James Mitchum Garrett was married to Sarah Francis Joyner of Henderson County.
