- Life since 1969: Out of
high school, worked construction with father for the summer. Started at
MSU in fall, joined Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity (charter member of TN Zeta
Chapter). Pursuit in business major.
- Registered for draft, called up for physical in 1971, did not
pass physical (eyes). Met future wife, Linda McKnight (Overton), summer
of 1972. Married, spring of 1973.
- Worked construction part time. Started work in trucking (Fred
Jones Manufacturing), covering 6 states (AR, MO, KY, TN, AL &MI.),
selling remanufactured Ford automotive parts to Ford dealers.
- Daughter,Kristal Vieira Maupin born in 1975.
- Quit driving in 1980; worked as sales rep for Lewis Ford, one
year.
- Went to work in cemetery business in 1980. Primary duty, cemetery
maintenance. Also, chaired regional committee for design and
implemation of safety and compliance with OSHA, federal, and state,
regulations.
- Joined aircraft preservation association. Joined E.O.D.
(explosive ordnance detachment), with Confederate Air Force out of
Harlingen, TX. Shooter in Charge of all aspects of pyrotechnic display
simulating strafing, napalm, high explosive munitions, atomic
representations, etc. Got to work with and meet everybody from fighter
aces from both WWII, Vietnam. Also, Worked with Leapfrogs (SEALS),
Golden Knights, etc. Worked with Chuck Yeager on a couple of occasions.
Worked on air shows in 10 states, 121 airshows.
- 1992. Appointed to upkeep of Traveling Vietnam Wall owned by
company. Appointed as project engineer. Set wall up in 25 cities in 10
states. Met governors, senators, and some members of congress. Also,
have met many Medal Of Honor Reciepients.
- 1992. Transfered to Lexington,KY. to manage Evergreen Memory
Gardens.
- 1995 Transfered to Chattanooga,TN. Duties, reorganize
maintainence department, training manager for four funeral homes, five
cemeteries, and one vault company. Also, responsible for all monument
placement in 200 mile radius of Chattanooga.
- Heart attack in spring of 2003, coupled with exteme back
problems, forced me into medical retirement.
- Message to classmates:
Take good care of your body,you never know how long you are going to be
around.
